Charles Vallancey: A Colossus and his Collectanea

A set of posts about Gen Charles Vallancey (C 1720-1812), a military engineer who made an antiquarian study of Ireland his life’s work. Many of his theories were derided and debunked, beginning as soon as they were published. But he contributed much valuable material to be studied by Irish historians and archaeologists, and stimulated interest in Irish antiquities and culture by his publications.
