We are heartbroken. Our dearest, kindest Robert slipped away from us yesterday. My husband, my blogging partner, my companion in all our adventures, the love of my life.
I don’t know what the future holds for Roaringwater Journal, but I do know that all our readers will join me in raising a glass to the memory of this wonderful man – architect, folklorist, writer, musician, historian and proud citizen of Ireland.

I am very sad about this news that I read just now. My condolence Finola. You and Robert have been (and are) my dearest West Corkian mates. Here in Sicily I am strongly connected with your place (that I journeyed for almost 1 year in 2019) thanks to the Southern Star and your blog. Hopefully you find the strength to keep on writing for the Roaring Water Journal

Finola, I am very saddened to hear about Robert. We met you both once on a walk up on Knocknaphuca in Goleen la few years ago. I have been reading and learning a lot from your writings. I enjoyed reading Robert’s maps a lot. They were intriguing indeed.
This is a sad and difficult time for you, Finola. Robert’s spirit and love will help strengthen you in the days ahead.

Dear Finola,
I was so shocked and saddened by this news that it has taken some time to reply. Please accept my sincere condolences and know that Robert has left an incredible legacy behind him and will be thought of and remembered often with great fondness. He was truly a one off. They don’t come along often, but when they do . . .
Look after yourself now Finola, and treat yourself with some kindness and patience, it’s not easy widowhood.
Much love from over here, Mary McCarthy Simpson x x

I am so very sad to read of Robert’s passing, and although, I haven’t met him, I could sense the spirit of the man through both of your blogs. They imbue such a plethora of knowledge, from history, to art, and folklore to archeology – so inviting to delve into. Thinking of you at this time of tragic and unexpected loss for you and your family, may you find some comfort there.
