Robert Harris, 1946 – 2024

We are heartbroken. Our dearest, kindest Robert slipped away from us yesterday. My husband, my blogging partner, my companion in all our adventures, the love of my life.

I don’t know what the future holds for Roaringwater Journal, but I do know that all our readers will join me in raising a glass to the memory of this wonderful man – architect, folklorist, writer, musician, historian and proud citizen of Ireland.

  1. Dear Finola, such devastation for you, I am so truly sorry to hear that Robert has died. I feel you will be keeping your head up, knowing how lucky you both were and will always be, to have found each other. I hope so. I will try to find an email address for you if I can Judith (Lanyon)

  2. Finola, I am very saddened to hear about Robert. We met you both once on a walk up on Knocknaphuca in Goleen la few years ago. I have been reading and learning a lot from your writings. I enjoyed reading Robert’s maps a lot. They were intriguing indeed.
This is a sad and difficult time for you, Finola. Robert’s spirit and love will help strengthen you in the days ahead.

  3. Dear Finola,

I was so shocked and saddened by this news that it has taken some time to reply. Please accept my sincere condolences and know that Robert has left an incredible legacy behind him and will be thought of and remembered often with great fondness. He was truly a one off. They don’t come along often, but when they do . . .

Look after yourself now Finola, and treat yourself with some kindness and patience, it’s not easy widowhood.

Much love from over here, Mary McCarthy Simpson x x

  4. I am so very sad to read of Robert’s passing, and although, I haven’t met him, I could sense the spirit of the man through both of your blogs. They imbue such a plethora of knowledge, from history, to art, and folklore to archeology – so inviting to delve into. Thinking of you at this time of tragic and unexpected loss for you and your family, may you find some comfort there.
