Robert Harris, 1946 – 2024

We are heartbroken. Our dearest, kindest Robert slipped away from us yesterday. My husband, my blogging partner, my companion in all our adventures, the love of my life.

I don’t know what the future holds for Roaringwater Journal, but I do know that all our readers will join me in raising a glass to the memory of this wonderful man – architect, folklorist, writer, musician, historian and proud citizen of Ireland.

  6. Schock, sadness, devastation, our condolences–words cannot express the loss, especially for you., But perhaps the words by E. A. Bucchianen have a place in your heart at a time like this.:  “When all is said and done, grief is the price we  pay for love.”  (And I sincerely  hope the Journal lives on in his memory.)

  11. I’ve been rereading some of Robert’s posts on Roaring Water Journal; a deeply curious and thoughtful man, who wrote well about his many varied interests. He was so fortunate to have found you, and you he; a true partnership. May he rest in peace.

  13. I’m so saddened, Finola. It was such a delight to while away the time with you and Robert in the popup shop in Skibbereen in 2016. We felt like we’d known you forever and, in the intervening years, have enjoyed taking in the wonders of Cork vicariously on your rambles. I hope that memories hold you up at this tender, difficult time.

  14. Dear Finola,

Please know that the blogs Robert wrote ( and yours, of course) were eagerly awaited by people near and far, strangers and friends. He touched our lives, and was clearly the center of yours.

I am so sorry for your loss. May you find some moments of peace in the wildflowers soon to bloom in Ireland’s Spring.
